1970 Rey Urban Modernist / Brutalist Chrysanthemum Brooch in Sterling Silver
A totally unique form! Is it a Modernist / Brutalist take on a chrysanthemum blossom? Is it a vignette of a cluster of futuristic sea mussels or perhaps crystals? What do you see?
This large brooch is handmade from textured plates of sterling silver. They’re creased and constructed in such a way that light peeks through and bounces in every direction. The overall effect is fascinating to the eye.
Brooch measures approximately 2 inches in diameter and weighs 19.7 grams. Made by Master Silversmith Rey Urban, entirely of sterling silver with full Swedish hallmarks for silver purity, maker, year, and location.
Modernist designer and jeweler, Rey Urban, started his company in 1950 and exhibited his work internationally throughout his lifetime. He is represented at the National Museum in Stockholm, among other museums.
